November 9, 2017- Senator Keith Ingram audio report of news from the 91st General Assembly.

  • As we get closer to the next cycle of statewide elections, voters will come to appreciate the lasting impact of Act 318. It requires candidates for public office to file campaign finance reports electronically. In other words, anyone with a computer, a laptop or a smart phone can do extensive research into political campaigns.
  • I was proud to vote for Act 318 because it goes a long way toward making our election process more transparent. It’s critical for voters to be able to determine where a candidate gets campaign contributions.
  • if you study the list of donations to a candidate you will get a clear indication whether or not they support highway construction funding, or stronger regulation of the banking and insurance industries. Previously, you had to drive to Little Rock and search in the basement of the state Capitol to get full access to campaign finance reports. Under the previous system, ordinary citizens were at a disadvantage because they didn’t have the time or the expertise to search all the records at the Capitol. It gave a huge advantage to professional politicians and their consultants.
  • Act 318 will level the playing field, so people can do their own research from home. We won’t have to rely on the professionals any more.
