September 28, 2017- Senator Keith Ingram audio report of news from the 91st General Assembly.

  • Recent announcements by Amazon, Toyota and Mazda have sparked a lot of discussions among businessmen, both on Wall Street and on Main Streets around the country.
  • Each of those companies has announced plans for a major expansion. Amazon is going to open a second corporate headquarters, and the location has not been determined. The mayor of Little Rock, along with almost every mayor in America, has expressed interest in recruiting the new headquarters.
  • Even more exciting for citizens of eastern Arkansas is that Toyota and Mazda are planning a joint venture. They plan to invest $1.6 billion on a manufacturing plant that will create 4,000 jobs. At this point Toyota and Mazda are being secretive about their intentions, but they have said that the plant will be in the central or southeastern part of the United States. Geographically speaking, Arkansas is a good fit.
  • Of course, the competition will be fierce, but one reason for Arkansas to be encouraged is the passage of several economic development measures enacted earlier this year by the legislature. Arkansas already had a battery of incentives in place for recruiting industry, such as the authority to issue bonds for job training and infrastructure improvements.
