August 3, 2017- Senator Keith Ingram audio report of news from the 91st General Assembly.

  • Arkansas has just completed its goal of providing broadband Internet access to all public schools. We’re now one of six states where every school has broadband capacity of at least 100 kilobits per second. All of our charter schools and educational co-operatives are connected, too.
  • For most school districts, the new network is 40 times faster than the old one. For rural schools, this is wonderful news. They have been working to close a technology gap and catch up to schools in urban areas, where it is so much cheaper to set up Internet connections.
  • Arkansas students aren’t just learning how to do research and homework on their computers. They’re also learning the nuts and bolts of computer science.
  • I know – there aren’t any nuts and bolts inside a computer. What I mean is that our students are learning to write computer code, and how to use algorithms to work through complex processes.
