May 11, 2017- Senator Keith Ingram audio report of news from the 91st General Assembly.

  • I’ve been selected to serve on a new committee, created during this year’s regular session to recommend broad changes to the state’s tax structure. It’s called the Arkansas Tax Reform and Relief Legislative Task Force, and it was created by the same legislation that granted more than $50 million a year in income tax relief to low-income families.
  • Recommendations are to modernize and simplify the Arkansas tax code, while at the same time making our tax system more fair for all individuals and businesses. The recommended changes in tax laws also should make Arkansas more competitive economically with other states and even in global markets. Tax incentives should spur investment in the creation of good jobs.
  • We can improve our tax system to make it more fair, to strengthen our economy and make us more competitive. It will require a lot of hard work, but if we work in good faith, there’s nothing we can’t do.
  • St. Francis County Local officials, Judge Gary Hughes, Mayor Larry Bryant worked with the Arkansas Economic Development commission to land one of the biggest projects ever in the Delta.
  • Ruyi Technology Group, a 10-billion-dollar textile manufacturing company, announced plans this week to renovate the old Sanyo building in Forest City. At full employment it will have over 800 workers at starting salary of $15.25/hr. and they will invest over $400 million to St. Francis County.
  • Also they plan to source Arkansas cotton, purchasing over 200,000 tons that will be spun into yarn for textiles to be manufactured in sites worldwide.
