March 16, 2017- Senator Keith Ingram audio report of news from the 91st General Assembly.

In this week’s report:

  • Lawmakers are working on legislation to give Arkansas voters the opportunity to approve or reject a $200 million-a-year highway improvement program.
  • The legislation is in two separate bills. One would impose the state sales tax on gasoline at the wholesale level and the other would authorize a bond issue, so that revenue could be available immediately.
  • If the highway bills gain final approval from the legislature, they will then be on the general election ballot in November, 2018.
  • In other business, the State Agencies Committee has advanced ethics legislation that I sponsored to prohibit lobbyists from making loans to lawmakers. Another ethics bill of mine did not fare as well in the State Agencies Committee. The bill would prohibit a member of the legislature from forming more than one Political Action Committee.
