In this week’s report:

  • Two of the first new laws enacted this year will implement the medical marijuana amendment.
  • Act 4 postpones the effective date of the marijuana amendment by 60 days. Act 5 of 2017 will provide legal protections for physicians whose patients want to take medical marijuana. It takes into account the fact that the federal Food and Drug Administration hasn’t tested medical marijuana or classified it as a pharmaceutical.
  • Both chambers of the legislature have passed the personal income tax cut for low-income families. It will mainly benefit Arkansans whose income is less than $21,000 a year, saving them more $50 million annually.
  • The legislature also approved funding so that more people with developmental disabilities can get home assistance. The services will allow them to live at home, rather than in an institution.
